Elite Workout
Success in any sport relies heavily on a player being given an opportunity and sound direction as to what they need to do to progress as an athlete. The SKYCITY Breakers, though a fully professional club see the need to cater for and assist in the development of our youth. It is important that we cater for as many kids as we can who show promise as a basketball player and help the selected ones that could go on to becoming a professional player.
The Elite pathway is a well structured Long Term Athletic Development model that guides the athletes through the skills required at each level to develop and succeed in the long term.
The Elite Workout programme is the second step in the Elite pathway and is held on Mondays 4.00pm – 5.30pm each school term at the SKYCITY Breakers training venue, 7 Atlas Place, Mairangi Bay. It is for players born in 1998 and 1999.
1997 Born players form the Junior Academy. This programme is selected only and train on Mondays 4.00pm - 5.30pm as a group.
The focus of the Elite Workout training sessions is to build on and develop the fundamental skills of basketball to give the players a strong grounding and base to build on as they progress through the Elite pathway. Introduction to higher level concepts are introduced at this level such as the pick and roll game to test the athletes ability to read the game and test basketball IQ.
To remain in the programme it is important to continually work hard and show improvement. This is a selected programme so it is important if selected to treat your spot with great pride and respect.
Graduating from this programme will only happen if the athlete shows significant progress in the following areas:
- High work ethic
